AN INITIATIVE OF

STEP FORWARD is an alternative youth-to-adult transition program providing a meaningful option to a four or two-year-degree program for those who need to mature in their life experience and need support to establish career options with a future.

To be successful in this world, classes after high school seem like a must. But should everyone go to "college"? These days not every career requires a bachelor's degree. There are careers that require technical training but not four full years of study. If everyone thinks the very best option has to be college and college means four years of study ending in a bachelor's degree, many young adults are discouraged by that – it is a lot of time & money and seems like a gigantic obstacle to them getting the job that could lead to a career. We hear the message loud and clear: anything less than college is second best. But what if that wasn't true?

STEP FORWARD is a new program in its second year that puts high school graduates on the path to earning certification or an associate's degree WHILE linking them to job placement and support all along the way. There's no cost to participants – in fact there's pay along the way! An extra bonus is that we hope to make it much more normal to consider these type of career options and programs – options that don't include a high-cost, unnecessary four-year degree. But options that do include a future and hope.

EMBRACE SUCCESS

STEP FORWARD is an alternative youth-to-adult transition program providing a meaningful option to a four or two-year-degree program for those who need to mature in their life experience and need support to establish career options with a future.

STEP FORWARD is a middle-skill career pathways initiative in healthcare that provides a meaningful work-to-school option for 18-24 year old young adults who lack the financial and/or support systems to complete a college degree program. Undeniably, all young people need some course of study beyond high school to enjoy employment security in today’s workplace.

Over the past two decades, a new social norm of college for all became a reasonable expectation for all students. Today, the “college for all” view of education dominates public discourse: a four-year bachelor’s degree is the end to which everyone is to aspire, even for those students growing up in poverty, who are from under-resourced and at-risk environments.
